In this paper, the exact analytical solution to the problem of optimal design of a cantilever compressed by a polar force is presented. It is assumed that the material of the bar is nonlinearly elastic or elasto-plastic and it may be described by the power physical law. The inequality constraints on the critical stress or cross-sectional area have been taken into account.
